Other points FYI

Service engineer with experience in low voltage addressable/LAN systems connecting/fault finding, with cable running installation experience

It would be good if they already had a CSCS / ECS card and good site Health & Safety experience, when on site. They would need to act professionally as our representative, liaising with other trades site managers to best get our work done efficiently.

We work with smaller data communication type cables, in the main telephone cables with solid twisted pairs CW1308, LON Bus, CAT5/6 etc. Containment is already provided in new builds/refurbishments, but in existing buildings it may involve installing mini trunking and pulling cables.

Someone with nurse call experience would be ideal as they would understand the terminology quicker, but that limits us so if they had experience in installing & commissioning modern addressable or IP systems within the intruder, access control, PLC, CCTV, even fire world, we can easily train them to work on our systems.

Initially we would like the engineer to terminate the cables and 2nd fix equipment, but mainly, with time and training, they would program test and commission, thereby having the satisfaction of seeing a project through form start to finish.  For existing systems there would be a requirement to fault find through any number of problems on the system to resolve any issues.  A good understanding of power supplies, usage, intermittent cable/connections. Open/short circuit and hardware issues as well as what problems these issues would cause on any bus connected system would be an advantage here.

Ideally must have own car/van with clean licence, will do around 15-20k mikes a year and receive mileage allowance (£5750-£7000) and overtime for travelling if outside working hours. Overnight stays of 1-3 nights for far afield work occasionally week at a time.

Currently we cover from Plymouth to Yorkshire and everything in between. Most of the northern work is done by someone based there but need to cover when he is not available and if help is required.

To also be PC literate WIN7/10, have working knowledge of communication protocols such as RS485 and RS232, an understanding of IP addressing,  confident to attend service call outs to rectify faults (on rare occasions out of hours)
