It’s probably fair to say that until mobile phones came out in the 1990s, personal pagers were effectively the only form of truly mobile communications. The units worked by emitting a loud, incessant bleep to attract someone’s attention and prompt them to check an incoming messages. The messages themselves were sent in a way that was not that dissimilar to Morse code (i.e. the number of beeps was translated into a fully understandable sentence that could be read.

Of course, early paging technology still had its limitations. For example, two paging units had to be within a 40 kilometre range if the users wanted to communicate with each other. It soon became clear that this technology could be very beneficial to workers whose services were needed by their peers in a local area (for example doctors, consultants, nurse pagers, businessmen, firemen etc.). Nurse pagers were ideal for call for aid systems and nurse paging systems.

Nowadays, mobile phones are in fact now very much the preferred mobile comms tool of choice for most users and paging technology still has a very prominent and distinct role to play in the 21st century for many easily understood reasons.

Hospitals employ digital paging solutions to help them deal with their patients more efficiently. At the end of the day, belting out a colleagues name or making an announcement via a prompter is simply nowhere near as effective as directly paging a colleague through a paging unit provided by the organisation.  Nursing home paging systems can immediately notify a patient that it is their turn to be treated in an easy, simple way.

Care Homes, Clinics, General Hospitals & Private Hospitals can be super busy, seemingly chaotic and stressful   environments. Running efficient treatment services, reliable waiting lists, emergency response teams and not to mention pharmacy services is no easy task in buildings where perhaps thousands of staff, patients and members of the general public are milling around and rushing from A to B. An efficient and effective paging solution can be absolutely invaluable in such environments as it enables staff to be called to where they’re most needed urgently. It also ensures that patients and members of the public can be attended to without having to wait in the same spot for too long.
